Advantage or Supplement is the real choice. Not the loudest postcard.

Two ways to build on Original Medicare. Trade-offs in plain English. No carrier names, no plan prices.

Until AEP opens October 15, 2026

This counts down to when the federal review window opens. It is not a sales deadline. You can review and stay.

Once you have Original Medicare (A and B), most people add a second layer. There is not one correct layer. There are two common builds. The right one depends on the doctors you will not give up, whether you travel, and how you feel about networks vs predictable bills.

This is the question I get in October. It is not a shopping list.

The two builds

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a private plan that bundles hospital, medical, and usually drugs. You use that plan’s network and rules. Some plans advertise extras. Those extras change every year. They are a poor reason to enroll from a blog post.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plus a separate Part D drug plan keeps Original Medicare as the foundation. Supplement helps with some of what A and B do not pay. You can typically see any provider that accepts Medicare. That flexibility is the usual reason people pick this path, along with more predictable cost-sharing.

How to choose without a brochure

Start with doctors you will not give up, drugs you take now, and whether you spend months away from Clark County. Then your tolerance for prior authorization vs a higher premium for flexibility. “My neighbor likes theirs” is not a dataset.

You can often move into Advantage during AEP. Moving the other way, Advantage to Supplement, is not always guaranteed later. Underwriting can apply after your first-year window. Decide on purpose the first time.

No $0. No giveback. No dental-as-the-reason. A comparison happens in an appointment, after a Scope of Appointment if we are discussing Advantage or Part D, with your doctors and drugs on the table. Do not upload a med list to a website form.

No plan prices, extra benefits, or carrier names on this page. Those belong in a comparison after we know your doctors and drugs.
